Absoutely, manipulation can be used for good and thanks for your point. I focused on the negative side of it, for sure.

Manipulation has become a dirty word, while 'leadership' has become virtuous... they are functionally the same.

Maybe another post is due Unkewl... thanks for sharing your interesting take on this--and making me think about all of this again...

Most of these observations are comeing from someone lookeing from the outside in, they either dont realize that they 2 manipulate but on a lower and insurmountable scale. I just would like to point out that one can not truley understand the art of manipulation and subterfuge the way someone born with those skills does. The type of people your referencing here are more of a unmoral standpoint. The true natural manipulators like myself ways heavely on my conscience, the very thing that seperates the ones who have this skill from birth from the people aquated to here. People born with these gifts realize usually that its a responsiblity to not manipulate people to the point of harm. The people referenced in the above artical are the immoral type. I just hope that people realize like everything else manipulators are either good , or bad. For example if I was to manipulate you into stoping a harmful habit, would you consider me a monster for doing so? But on the contrary to the immoral I spoke of and example of there behavior would be manipulation without moral reasoning, as long as they get what they want, nothing else matters.(aka monsters) Just please realize that there are 2 seperate types of manipulators , ones who repect and uphold a sense of morals, and those who discard morality for no other reason then to purley get what they want.

Not so much due to smooth talking, but maybe more to: 1-they have enough boldness to be deceptive in the first place, and 2-they have some degree of confidence that you won't know the truth. (And everybody falls into these 2 categories at one time or another... we need to be deceptive to avoid or gain something, and we usually only do it when we believe we can get away with it--think Bill Clinton.)

And actually a pre-meditated deception can be easier to spot than one that's impromtu... but you do have to know a few tricks.

Undercover? No acting classes, but we did train for it deeply. I've often said that "they trained me to be deceptive"--my first time on that side of the fence, but a cop can't buy dope without telling a lie... lots of 'em, really.

Thanks Jeannie!

Hi Jef!
"The people who are most successful at deception are the people who are most convincing in what they say.".... you are so right about this. Why are these people such smooth talkers? Is it because they have their goal in mind and have planned every detail towards getting what they want? Everything is premeditated it seems.

So did you have to take acting lessons to do undercover work? Just curious... haha... Do law enforcers get training from actors? What a question.

Great observations- & great pic! Greed IS a major player- if we
have a shot at something really good, we just want it all to be true.
